Keeping fit!

Philippians  2:12,13

“… work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God who works in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure.” (World English Bible)

A good workout often leaves you feeling good, but shattered! Its active – not passive! Thank you Lord that our faith is not a static thing, but an active thing, being worked out in our lives day by day. Thank you that we don’t work at it alone, but you work in us and with us – thank you Lord that you work on our wills so that we want to live for your good pleasure and we then work it out in our lives.

Galatians 5:16,17

But I say, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall no way fulfil flesh’s lust. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these things are opposed one to the other, that ye should not do those things which ye desire; (Darby)

Being fit, keeping fit is a constant struggle – so often the time comes when you don’t feel as though you can be bothered, or other things crowd in and the plans you had get squeezed out.

The same happens spiritually – there is a constant battle going on between our lustful human desires and God’s Spirit’s work in our lives to move us to will and work to his good pleasure. Praise God that he continues to do this in our lives, because we are blessed as a result.

Sometimes our desire is to live after God’s way, to bring him pleasure and as we do so there is great pleasure for us as we enjoy him, as I do, as I write even now. But if we’re going to do that, then we need to ‘walk in the Spirit’ and that means giving time to spend with him so that we can get in step.

Lord, help me to walk in step with you, and so fulfil your purposes in my life and win the battle with my fleshly lusts.
